9월 22일 Happy 50th Birthday, Dad!It may have been the longest birthday celebration in history, but my Dad certainly deserved it! It started with the trip to Bermuda and ended with a grand celebration luau-style last weekend with 75 guests consisting of family and friends. He was extremely surprised and everyone had a great time! The entertainment, food and company couldn’t be beat! A few touching words sprinkled with some light-hearted humor were said by my sister and I as we recalled the “Top 10 Things We Learned from our Dad.” Aunt Ronnie read a sweet poem she wrote about her “big” little brother. The band was great and kept everyone moving to the music. My Dad is still talking about it…another wonderful memory was created! 9월 10일 Bermuda - Day 4: Michael Douglas & Catherine Zeta-Jones SightingTom and I decided to take one last spin on the moped and we had to check out Horseshoe Bay Beach, the most beautiful and photographed beach in Bermuda. I was in the restroom, but Tom ran into Jill who was on a walking tour. She gave him a heads-up that Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones were on the beach, so we were on the lookout! When we spotted them, they were "incognito," so we weren't sure it was really them. Then we heard Michael Douglas talk (couldn't hear what he was saying, though) and we knew it was them! We didn't want to be too obvious, especially since they appeared to be enjoying a family outing with the kids, but as soon as they got far enough away that it would look like I was just a tourist taking pictures of the beach, I was snapping as many shots as them as possible. It was great People Magazine material! At one point, Michael Douglas was twirling his daughter, but my camera was too slow to react! It was really cute. Within a few minutes, people started gathering around them and they high-tailed it out of there. I stretched out on the hotel's private beach while Tom took "a real" ride on the moped by himself. Now he wants to get a motorcycle some day! Great.... I probably would have been screaming more than usual had I been on that joyride! So instead, I took to the calming water and laid under the tiki umbrella with my Piña Colada and Cooking Light magazine. Ahhhh...paradise! Later that evening, we went to Henry VIII for dinner. The restaurant is known for its steaks, so all of us got some variation. Except Patty got the lobster as a final attempt at pescetarianism (that's a funny story for another blog entry!) It was good eating the entire trip and Henry VIII did not disappoint. 9월 8일 Bermuda - Day 3On Day 3, we rented a moped – and I survived! I was holding onto Tom for dear life, but he
drove very carefully and slowly. Many
cars and other mopeds were passing us, but that was ok with me! 9월 5일 Bermuda - Day 2We woke up to a cloudy morning, but it was pleasant enough to eat out on the balcony. We had a really nice view of the ocean. Once finished, we had to pack it up quickly because the birds were ready and waiting for scraps! On Friday, we headed into downtown Hamilton. I was glad to see it, but I'm not much of a shopper, and that's about all there was. We picked up some rum cakes and souvenirs for people. Also ate at a trendy restaurant/bar and had a gourmet pizza for lunch. Wish I had a picture of it. It was topped with avocado, shrimp and pesto...yum. Dinner that evening was also in Hamilton. The restaurant was nice, but I was still full from lunch, so I ate light. Went to a wine bar after dinner that showcased over 1,000 different wines. Also met up with Jill's sister and brother-in-law, who also happened to be vacationing in Bermuda. It was a really nice day packed with activity! 9월 4일 Bermuda - Day 1I'm going to walk you through my trip day-by-day because it's simply too much to put in one entry and photo album! When we arrived, I was struck by how beautiful and clean everything is. There's virtually no poverty and the houses are so colorful and well-kept. The airport was about 40 minutes from the hotel, so there was a lot of scenery along the way! The view from our balconies was awesome! We were very tired, so we went back to the hotel to grab lunch and then took a nice long nap. The first night, we ate at a restaurant that was part of the hotel - The Ocean Club it was called, I think. They messed up our reservation, so while we were waiting for them to straighten everything out, we had a drink on them. My first Rum Swizzle - yum! Tom said it reminded him of an Alabama Slammer. I tore into my dinner, so I didn't stop to take a picture. But I wish I had because it was absolutely wonderful. I ordered Chilean Seabass and it melted in my mouth. The dessert was just as awesome, but had to share that with Tom. While this first day wasn't too eventful, it was filled with great food and a great first impression of the island. More adventures to come! (View the album to the right for more pics.) |
